I had been looking for a 1959 Impala for many, many years, but I really stepped up the search in 2021. Occasionally, I’d see Facebook Marketplace ads for these cars, but by the time I followed up on them, they were gone. On Monday, November 1, 2021, a particular ad caught my eye. It was for an ’59 Impala located in Missouri. I immediately saved the seller’s contact info, but I foolishly waited a day before I decided to contact him about it. When I got back on Marketplace the next day to look for the car, I saw that the ad for it had been taken down. Even though I was bummed that I had missed another opportunity to pick up my dream car, I still messaged to the seller in the hopes that he may have other cars to sell, or maybe at least a lead on another 1959. To my surprise, he still had the Impala – he took the ad down because he was getting too many lowball offers on it. I asked him to hold onto it until the weekend, for I would make the trip down from Indiana to see it. He agreed to hold onto it for a few days. That weekend, I made the trip south to check out the car.
This is where the story of the Flyin’ 59 begins…
